Your Life Is Sacred from the Start : how to stop regretting your past

No matter what you’ve gone through, your life is sacred. Every experience, pleasant or painful, has helped shape the person you are today.

Years ago, one of my brothers tried to make me feel ashamed for my past, for having multiple relationships and a failed marriage. He compared his life to mine, believing his was “purer” because he married very young, stayed in our hometown, and lived what appeared to be a simple, stable life.

Why You Regret the Past and What It’s Really Teaching You

My story was very different.

I left France when I was barely eighteen, moved to England and placed in a high end establishment to work by my business school in hospitality. I was one of the very few students that graduated with honors to be placed to perfect my English and gain experience in the hospitality industry abroad. My end goal was to later move to the USA, which I was able to accomplish when the opportunity arose.

I moved to New York City just before my twentieth birthday, with a small bag and a hundred dollars in my pocket, hopeful for my future and my new life.

At first, I lived with a very generous and wealthy family that loved me like I was one of their own.

Later, when I as able to legally work, I would have two or three jobs at times just to make ends meet. I met many kind people who helped along the way, and others who made things harder. Life wasn’t easy, but I learned to survive and even excell at times without the support of anyone.

Those years were full of lessons. They tested me, stretched me, and ultimately shaped my inner strength to make me who I am today.

So when my brother said those hurtful words; "how can you live with yourself with the life you have?" I had just gone through a painful separation from my husband.

I was being scrutinized in my workplace by my subordinate because my husband and I worked for the same company in different departments and everyone knew we were getting a divorce.

This made things very difficult for me because my soon to be ex was furious with me, and did all he could to shame me.

I never was one to wash my laundry openly in public, so I never tried to involve any of my employees or explain myself to any of them.

My life was my own. If my husband wanted to tarnish my reputation out of anger and resentment towards me, I thought fine, and took the hit, I just swallowed my pride.

My brother knew very little about my life because we lived 5000 miles apart from each other. And we weren’t close. My mom was the bridge and would relay stories about her kids to each of us.

He could only speculate about me since I didn't say much. Yet it felt very hurtful to be accused and downgraded, instead of supported and comforted by a family member.

So I paused. Then I told him calmly,

“I disagree. Every experience I’ve had was a stepping stone that made me who I am today. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

This was the very moment; how I stopped regretting my past! It was an amazing feeling and acknowledgement for myself.

And as for my brother, that was the last time he tried to shame me.

Perhaps he didn’t understand that I was speaking from a spiritual place, that every hardship and every so-called “mistake” had been part of my soul’s unfolding.

How Difficult Experiences Shape Spiritual Maturity

Your journey on this earth is about your spiritual maturation, your awakening into higher understanding.

Your Life Is Sacred, Spiritual Growth will be the end result if you are willing and able to look at these experiences correctly.

When we take our responsibilities, and look at the challenge we are faced with as an experience for spiritual growth, we will win and prevail. No matter what it looks like from the outside or what someone else may think of you, it doesn't really matter!

What matters is what you see, undersand, and know. It's your life, your experience, your results.

Every event, every heartbreak, every challenge is designed for your spiritual growth.

When you start to see your life through spiritual eyes, you realize that nothing was ever wasted. Even the moments that seemed wrong or painful were perfectly placed to help you grow into who you’re meant to be.

In my own life, every challenge culminated to eventually find myself on True Spiritual path after much search.

I exhausted every avenues offered to me to finally be drawn to this sacred teaching called "Surat Shabda Yoga" or "The Light and Sound Teaching".

After I started to walk this path, and took the time to look back, I very clearly saw that my life experiences led me to be in the presence of Sat Guru in this life. It was perfect indeed.

I now know that everything, the pain, the risks, the mistakes were preparing me for this deeper path of the Light and Sound Teachings.

Everything has a reason to exist in your life. If you cannot see it yet, give it some contemplative time and it will show itself. Nothing is out of place. Your Life Is Sacred; and every experience shapes your spiritual growth.

Finding Purpose in Painful Seasons

If anyone ever tries to shame you for your past or the choices you’ve made, remember:

Your life is sacred from the start.

It was designed just for you. Every experience, “good” or “bad,” was necessary for your evolution.

It’s not about sin. It’s about spiritual growth.

Ironically, years after that conversation, my brother went through his own awakening. He left his wife after having been unfaithful, something he once judged so harshly in others. It was his turn to face life’s lessons.

That’s how it works, life humbles us until we learn be compassionnate towards others and ourselves.

The No Judgement Spiritual Growth Reminder

Never judge someone else’s path. You don’t know what lesson their soul came here to learn. If you can, offer kindness, or a word that uplifts. And if not, simply hold space and let them walk their journey.

We are all learning. We are all healing. Life is not here to condemn us, it is here to awaken us.

So trust that your life, too, is sacred. Every experience is guiding you closer to your true self. Your life is sacred indeed!
