Training Your Mind: How It Becomes an Ally on the Spiritual Journey

Through Spiritual Practice, Train Your Mind To Become Your Ally

When you have worked with your mind long enough and brought it under control, it will act like a well-trained dog. Once your mind is spiritualized enough, it will follow all your instructions.

Whose instructions, you may ask? The soul’s divine instruction.

Not to be confused with the ego’s whims and desires.

At that point, you will live within a peaceful state of mind—even in the midst of chaos. Life’s burdens will have no pull on you. Life will appear easy to live. Problems will come, yes, but they will present themselves with solutions. The challenges of the day will be resolved with clarity and will hardly ruffle you.

Does this mean problems will no longer arise?

Not at all.

We live in the world of duality. Life lived on earth will always present itself with “good” and “bad” events. That is the nature of this place. But the difference is this: once your mind is brought under the guidance of Soul, these challenges will be peanuts compared to before. They won’t move you one bit.

Because nothing moves the dweller in God’s universe.

Nothing Moves the Dweller in God’s Universe

Let me give you an example from my own life.

I have a sweet neighbor, a very spiritual woman whom I enjoy visiting with. Recently, she left me a message about a wildfire in the mountain behind our houses, much closer to her ranch where she keeps her herd of horses.

She was beside herself with worry. The fire, by the grace of the Great One, was discovered by a horseback rider passing through; a Divine Intervention, since no cars or fire trucks could access that area.

It was about half an acre of New Mexico grass burning, no trees yet involved. Firefighters on foot were working to contain it.

Still, my neighbor spent the whole day on the walkie-talkie, frazzled and overwhelmed by the thought of what could happen. She was ready for the worst.

Meanwhile, I stepped outside to see if I could spot it from my place. A small amount of smoke rose behind the ridge. I calmly considered what we would do if it spread:

  • Load up the dogs in one vehicle.

  • Take the cats with me if they were around (my cats are stray and spend a lot of time outdoors but always come home). I know they could survive and get away!

  • Let the hens run free or put them in kennels and load them up on the truck to take with us (if possible).

  • Grab passports and a few essential documents.

  • Leave with what mattered, if the flames ever came close enough.

That was it. There was no need to lose my serenity over a small fire being handled by professionals. I wasn’t about to lose my peace of mind to “what ifs.”

That’s the difference.

One of us was frazzled. The other dwelt in peace and pragmatism.

There is no judgement here on my part, I am just assessing what went on with me in comparison wih someone else. I totally understand that certain situation may "get us" , and we all have weaknesses or triggers. It's all a learning experience!

In the end the fire was contained. That same night we were blessed with a downpour of fresh cool rain! It rained all night long into the next day, which ended any possibility of re-igniting.

Action Does Not Mean Reaction

The dweller in God’s universe knows he is covered by Grace. All that is required is to take action when necessary.

But action does not mean reaction.

It does not mean becoming hyper, frazzled, or overwhelmed. It means becoming masterly directed—calmly choosing the right steps to survive, to resolve, and to overcome the challenge at hand.

When your mind is trained enough, you become a problem-solver. And strangely, it becomes exciting to be so. Life no longer shakes you. Instead, you move through it steady, guided, and free.

✨ Takeaway for You

Training your mind to become your ally is a vital part of the spiritual journey. It is how we find inner peace and move through life’s chaos with divine grace

Work with your mind until it becomes your ally.

Train it like the faithful companion it is meant to be.

Then, when life brings "fire"— or any other trial — you will not be moved unecessarily.

You will be carried by God’s grace, acting with clarity, and resting in peaceful tranquility.

Of course this only takes place via spiritual training of the mind, effort, and surrender.
